Charity skydive: Susie's story

Stories@2X (3)

On Sunday 15 September, Susie will be taking on an incredible challenge: a charity skydive with all proceeds going directly to WithYou.

Susie, from Cornwall, was struggling with abusive relationships and mental health challenges. She began to self-medicate with substances as a way to cope. Trying to balance working part-time, being a full-time mother and caring for a terminally ill family member took its toll on Susie, and in 2019, she sought help from WithYou.

Finding support and belonging

With the guidance of Marie, a dedicated Recovery Worker, Susie found support in local MAP meetings and discovered a sense of belonging she hadn’t felt before, describing the environment as like a ‘family’.

A path to recovery

Thanks to the support and guidance she received from WithYou, Susie successfully overcame her reliance on substances and was able to focus on planning a future career path. She was referred to WithYou’s IPS team where she began working with Vicki, who supported her with writing her CV and sending application forms. She also received support from WithYou’s Life Skills team, helping her to take control of her household and bills while looking for work.

I always wanted to work in the care sector and Vicki supported me with this. Eventually, I was successful in gaining a support worker role, and I now feel like I am thriving. For the first time in a long time, I genuinely feel happy.

Giving back

Now, Susie is keen to give back. Her upcoming charity skydive is her way of raising money for the support services that changed her life. She’s passionate about helping others find the same hope and opportunity that she did.

If you’re able to contribute this month, please consider donating to Susie’s incredible challenge. Every donation helps us change lives through the work we do at WithYou.
